“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
The world of today dictates trouble, violence, hardship….etc. People are struggling, trying as hard as they can to meet up with the world’s demands, to survive; sometimes it seems like good tidings no longer exist on the face of the earth. By reading John 14:27 this morning, the verse quoted above, I have come to understand that really the world does not give peace, although it looks like it. True peace is in Jesus.
Our theme for the month (Matt. 11:28) emphasizes this also. “Come to me, all you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” The world gives ‘rest’ and puts a price tag to it. The world gives ‘peace’ and puts a date of expiration to it, which if you analyze closely, half the time is spent dreading the end or devising ways to get extra time than actually living in the ‘rest’.
The word of God is all the reminder you need. It is also all the confirmation and persuasion you need. Looking every else except to God, for reprieve will not solve that problem. Plotting endlessly, scheming, devising methods upon methods to untangle yourself from the mess in which you have made of your life, won’t help either. Endless use of diazepam, lexotan or any other drug that induces sleep or morphine, codeine, alcohol… that gets you elated enough to forget your problems, won’t save you.
In Jesus alone, you find rest and peace.
