I was reading some scriptures that talked about the drinking of alcohol and smoking and it was brought to my notice that no scripture talked about smoking and some scriptures supported the taking of alcohol with emphasis that it shouldn’t be in excess. Others clearly warned against the use of alcohol; especially for people who have been called by God. I have three questions:
1. What exactly is God’s stand where alcohol is concerned?
2. Jesus was separated to God, yet he turned water to wine.
3. What is God’s stand on smoking.

  1. A preacher once gave an example of an unbeliever, he smokes and drinks..but the moment he received christ, he just lost the interest in all that…p.s nobody preached to him that alcohol and smoking is bad o.. He just preached to him about christ and about what we have in Christ… And the moment he received Christ he couldn’t just do those things again cos he has the spirit of God inside him… The grace of God doesn’t make you free to sin but free from sin.. So a person that have genuinely received Christ won’t have any interest in drinking or smoking… Okay i used to like all these songs by rihanna, nicki minaj and i see nothing in singing them.. But the moment I received Christ i just lost interest in them I can’t just do them again,i can’t just go a club and feel comfortable…. In same way, you can’t take alcohol and smoke as a Christian and be comfortable with it or still want to justify yourself…. They may be no bible ref about smoking and drinking o… But we have the spirit of God in us and we’re not of this world, we have a higher calling….there will be no diff btw a sinner and a Christian if you drink and smoke with them.. They won’t even listen to you when you want to preach cos they know you’re in the same category with them ~ N

  2. Well….the origination of dis smoking stuff wasn’t for we Nigerians it was for pole in d cold region..taking cigarette isn’t bad but taking it to a point wen it clouds your judgment is the problem even d cigarette label says smokers are liable to due young…it’s just too much of it dar cause isssues ~ T

  3. “Do all to the glory of God…even breathing….how do those vices glorify God….do you become more like him wen u take them. He is our perfect example did he take alcohol or smoke? And a child of God is led by the spirit of God ….the holy spirit will never ask you to drink alcohol or smoke that just pleases d flesh which we are to DAILY crucify.” ~ H

  4. Hmmmmmm…I don’t think every vice is mentioned in the Bible and because it isn’t mentioned in the Bible doesn’t make it any less of a vice. When God lists something as wrong..it is because of His love for us… smoking and drinking doesn’t affect God in anyway but, whatever affects us affects God. The fact that He can’t get lungs diseases and the likes doesn’t mean He should or is uncaring of our welfare.
Proverbs 31 says it is not for kings O Lemuel..it is not for king to take strong drink and princes to take intoxicating drinks..1peter says I am a “royal priesthood”.. meaning I am royalty..the Bible also says as He is in heaven so,am i on earth then it also says know ye not that ye are gods..
So,i think it all boils down to the understanding of who I am. Scriptures says I should take dominion..only a ruler takes dominion. So,my knowledge of who I am determines what I allow..sin isn’t what is right or wrong morally to me but what is right or wrong to God

  6. God gave us the idea to create wine both alcoholic and non-alcoholic what we do with the wine is what now determines it been a sin or not.
You get.. alcohol in itself isn’t a sin. Sin isn’t sin our actions defines it as sin. ~ O

  7. …..First thing I would like to point out is dis…for controversial issues lyk dis…if u do not feel sure of what to do or what d Bible says…isn’t it better to be on d safe side? Just asking tho. From ~ T

  8. But set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess.
    1 Pet 3:15
Yet do it with courtesy and respect, keeping a good conscience, so that those who slander your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame when they accuse you.
    1 Pet 3:16
